[Draft dated as of Aug 13th '09]

Dears,

We are happy to inform that the 2009 Project was a success. We travelled over 3.000 miles in between South Africa and Mozambique. We have travelled all directions in Mozambique, starting off in the south at Maputo (capital city) going northeast by the coastline, we had a few stops to sleep and eat, and after 3 days we hit Nampula where served as a “base” for the three of us (Filipe Fukumoto, Marcelo and Adriana Marins) from there we went to “Ilha de Moçambique” (Island of Mozambique), we travelled to the extreme east to Beira where we met the Iris Ministry base in Pemba Beach. After a week and so in Nampula we hit the road once again and went west heading to Zimbabwe where the Mt Binga is located (the highest peak in Mozambique/Zimbabwe) from there we went back to Maputo by the country side. Many things were said, seen, preached, happened. Miracles were testified and will be published in our website.

There were around 12,000 pictures taken, and several hours of video recording were taken, it will take a while to deal with all this amount of data, however we count on you and ask for your patience we lack “hands” to deal with everything. If you want to help just get in contact with us and we will be very happy to accept any kind of aid or help you may share.

 In Christ,

Many times I catch myself thinking about what could I do to help bringing Jesus salvation to those who don’t know about it yet.

The first thing that crosses my mind is usually related to direct speech, getting on a plane and head to the African continent in order to preach about the Gospels. At the same time I figure myself talking to at most 100 people, and that’s not much besides I wouldn’t be able to travel more than a few miles and visit a couple of villages doing that.

The second thought is fundraising, in order to support those who are inland preachers. I believe this is very important mission to get involved with once you are not an inland preacher, however I also know that the world is facing this “financial crisis” and a finance support shortage is being faced by most of the NGOs and Christian Missions all around.

The third thought is helping to disseminate information and news in a democratic way all around the world. This is the main focus of UMAfrica organization. We (I) believe that as Jesus taught us by sharing the information contained in Him, we should also share the information that we are aware of, either the information regarding the Salvation and the other related to the need of this graceful Salvation. There are many doing the first piece, however not many at the other side.

In this way I hope to succeed bringing the Jesus salvation to those who need it other than just thinking about it. Why am I saying all of this? Recently I was reading an article about Internet connections in South Africa and the “real need” of the “Africans” (I apologize for using these terms), the writer was talking about how slow the connections in South Africa may be, and even talked about a test done that proved that a Dove delivering a message to another city was faster than sending the same message by e-mail. In the comments section a reader was arguing about the whole article saying that nobody should bother about the internet connections in Africa, and the same reader was talking about the “real needs” of Africa, amongst them was the AIDS, poverty, and pseudo-slavery. — I truly believe in the power of the globalization (information sharing), I believe that as God sets us free by sharing his Love with us, we get to free whoever that may be in need of freedom by sharing his need to the ones that know about the true freedom. So if you are just like the reader above that thinks that sharing information (nowadays by internet) is not important in order to change Africa, please I ask you, don’t think like that anymore.

The internet is helping delivering God’s salvation as well as delivering the need of it to the others all around the Globe.

Yours,
Filpe Fukumoto

Somalia’s Muslim militants are hunting down converts to Christianity. According to Voice of the Martyrs Canada, Al-Shabaab members have murdered 14 believers since July 15, reports MNN.

Compass Direct News reports the September 15 shooting death of 69-year-old Omar Khalafe, an underground Christian who had Bibles in his possession.

On the day of his death, Khalafe was carrying 25 Somali Bibles he hoped to deliver to an underground fellowship in Somalia. At a checkpoint controlled by al Shabaab–a rebel group linked with al Qaeda which has taken over large parts of the war-torn country–bus passengers were ordered to disembark for inspection.

Voice of the Martyrs Canada and Compass Direct reports agree on the events following the discovery of the Bibles.

The assailants used photos they found to determine if they could match the faces to any passengers. When they noticed a resemblance to Khalafe, they asked if the Bibles were his. The radicals shot and killed him when he did not respond.

Militants then displayed his body in Merca along with the Bibles as a warning to others. Later that day, a militant reported Khalafe’s death on a radio program.

Khalafe, who had been a Christian for 45 years, was active in sharing the Good News and baptizing converts from Islam.

Khalafe’s family is in mourning, but due to the risk of exposure, his wife and seven children were unable to participate in his burial because of the risk of being killed by militants, reports Compass Direct.

A Ugandan MP has proposed creating an offence of “aggravated homosexuality” to be punishable by death.

Ruling party MP David Bahati wants the death penalty for those having gay sex with disabled people, under-18s or when the accused is HIV-positive.

Homosexual acts are already illegal, but the Anti-Homosexuality Bill proposes new offences and urges the toughening of existing penalties.

Earlier versions of the bill were widely criticised by rights groups.

The BBC’s Joshua Mmali, in the capital Kampala, says the bill has a good chance of being passed as senior figures from the ruling National Resistance Movement are likely to back it.

President Yoweri Museveni has made several speeches outlining his own anti-gay views.

Gays ‘persecuted’

There are estimated to be 500,000 gay people in Uganda, from a population of about 31 million, according to gay rights groups.

Gay activists have long alleged persecution and existing laws already allow large fines and life imprisonment for some homosexual acts.

Mr Bahati’s bill proposes widening the definition of homosexual acts and wants to fine or imprison anyone found to be promoting homosexuality.

The bill states that its provisions are intended to “protect the traditional family by prohibiting any form of sexual relations between persons of the same sex”.

The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission has urged the bill to be dismissed.

They say it violates several international agreements Uganda has signed up to - as well as contradicting the country’s own constitution.

But John Otekat Emile, an independent MP, said he believed the bill had a “99% chance” of being passed.

“Members of parliament are overwhelmingly supporting this bill because homosexuality is illegal in Uganda, and we have that clearly in the penal code,” he told the BBC.

Emmanuel Dombo, an MP with the ruling party, agreed and said it was an important issue to investigate.

“What we need to look at are the sentences - what kind of sentences or punishment should be prescribed for sexual offenders in this respect - that is the big question,” he said.

But our correspondent says the authorities already find it difficult to prove cases under current laws because evidence is difficult to obtain.

Some people who have openly declared that they are gay have not been prosecuted because declaring sexual orientation is not a crime, our correspondent adds.

We’ve been talking a lot about the UMA project, introducing it to all sort of missionaries around mozambique that resulted in lots of new contacts and people interested in Africa such as ourselves.

Today is the first day of the 2009 Prophetic Conference held by a brazilian church/mission, it has been a pleasure to be with them these last few 2 weeks. We have also been around here, we’ve been out to “Ilha de Mocambique” (Island of Mozambique) and to Pemba as well, were we were hosted by “Missão Arco-Iris” (Iris Ministry). Thank’s for everything God, let us know the ones that You have already prepared to be known and reach the ones that should be reached by our works.

As soon as the trip is over many updates on the results of the 2009 Project will be posted.

In Christ,

Hi, I’m typing straight from Nampula (Mozambique), this city is amazing, we found a strong mixture of Chinese, Indian and a couple of other foreigners. The children around here are full of joy, the churches are full of believers but there’s an intense and growing need of all sorts of aid.

I’ve been in touch with many brazilian missionaries that are now holding a prophetic congress. Marcelo, Adriana and I drove here all the way from johanesburg, as soon as I have more news and updates I’ll keep them posted.

Your prayers are welcome.
